Last weekend The Marlowes Shopping Centre supported by Hemel Hempstead BID hosted their second ever Hemel Summer Food & Drink festival which was a roaring success! We can’t believe it was already nearly a whole week ago…
The two days were filled with sunshine, laughter, exceptional food and drink as well as brilliant music and a selection of fabulous children’s entertainment. This year, the Hemel Summer Festival was all about celebrating the Hemel community, our special town and the people and talent within it. We were also incredibly fortunate with the weather which all helped to contribute towards the lovely atmosphere that was spread through the festival all weekend long.
The feedback from guests has been fabulous, with several people stating that the festival was ‘The best thing to happen to Hemel in a long time’ and that it was ‘a fabulous event’ – and many more requesting that it gets repeated every year. Brilliant comments were received on our stall holders too, with people praising them for not only their delicious products but on their friendliness and customer service too.
Over the two days, we had two fantastic artists; David Marken and Pari Shamir who used their guitars to woo the crowds and get us all in the summer festival mood. Their years of experience and training shone through. With David’s extensive repertoire and Pari’s divine voice, this year’s summer festival wouldn’t have been the same without them.
We chatted to some of our stall holders about their experiences of the summer festival and they had some lovely words for us about the festival and you, the guests!
Sophie Reynolds from Waffle Wands said:
‘It was great to be a part of the summer festival and be able to put some smiles on faces with our tasty waffles, we really have been blessed with good weather this year and being able to make use of that weather by listening to some talented artists and eat tasty food is always a bonus!’
Belinda Ayres from Woodward’s Farm said:
‘We had a wonderful weekend and weren’t we so lucky with the weather! We absolutely adored serving up our delicious, hearty food to the Hemel community and were thrilled with the feedback we had. We also loved meeting the other stall holders and local business – all such a talented bunch. A big thanks for having us!’
For this year’s festival, there was a real emphasis on ensuring it was a family friendly event, by integrating the Kid’s Clubs activities within The Marlowes. Throughout the day, there was face painting, which one of our guests said was ‘absolutely amazing!’, as well as our inside food trail (a welcomed break from the sun!). The Marlowes mascot Marley was present throughout the day too, joining in with our creation station and reading from Herts Inclusive Theatre.
We want to say a massive thank to all the guests, stall holders and entertainers that made the Hemel Summer Festival’s the big success that it was this year. What a brilliant way to kick off the school summer holidays and an even better way to enjoy an authentic weekend in Hemel.
