Street Stories Interactive Art Trail Comes to Hemel Hempstead
Discover eight vibrant artworks by local artists across Hemel Hempstead town centre and the Old Town, brought to life through animation in a free outdoor trail.
A New Way to Explore Hemel Hempstead
Street Stories has arrived in Hemel Hempstead, transforming familiar town-centre locations into an open-air gallery. Created in partnership by design agency Arch Creative, Hemel Hempstead BID and Dacorum Borough Council, the eight-piece installation celebrates the people, places and stories that make the town distinctive.
The route begins at Hemel Hempstead Leisure Centre and continues to Nationwide on the high street, The Roundhouse, The Forum and West Herts College. Along the way, visitors can experience artwork in spaces already woven into everyday community life, from the library and leisure centre to the college and high street.
Meet the Artists
The trail features work by eight artists with strong local connections: Eloise Pilbeam, Hélène Engrand, James Lark (OhMyArt), Wonky Hobo (Gareth), Mary Casserley, Amy Huitson, Sam D’Cruze (Child Of) and Katharine Harper.
Each artist responded to themes including connections and community, a vibrant destination, wellbeing and a town in a park, roots and heritage, and future visions for Hemel in 2050. Priority was given to artists born, living or working in Hemel Hempstead and the surrounding area.
Celebrating Creativity in Everyday Places - See the Art Come to Life
Visitors can scan QR codes at each installation to open animations produced by Arch Creative. These digital elements bring the artworks to life and offer a new way to engage with the stories behind them.
The trail is free to explore and is designed to bring people together, support local artists and give residents and visitors a fresh reason to enjoy Hemel Hempstead.

Street Stories is a UK-wide public art initiative that brings communities together and celebrates local identity. Hemel Hempstead joins Wolverhampton, Leicester, Colchester and Stirling as the latest town to take part in the programme.
The Hemel Hempstead trail was made possible through funding received by Hemel Hempstead BID from the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
